Description

Wider is a mono-to-stereo converter and stereo image widener plug-in (AUv3) by Infected Mushroom and Polyverse. It is mono compatible and does not color the sound.

Wider -- derived from the massively popular stereo feature of its sibling Manipulator -- expands the stereo image of a mono signal to an awe-inspiring amount of width.

However, Wider is a unique stereo plugin in the sense that it is completely “mono-compatible," meaning that any signal that has been extended will always remain in phase with itself, even if summed to mono.

Many stereo effects currently in use have the nasty habit of knocking signals out of phase which can quickly make a track sound muddy and unbalanced, or make sounds seem flat and lacking dynamics if one isn’t mindful of the effect. Thanks to Wider’s one-of-a-kind all-pass and comb filtering algorithm, a natural-sounding stereo image is created from a mono channel without compromising the phase between the sides. Because Wider cancels itself out when summed to mono, the original signal is left intact.

Wider can be used to increase the stereo image of any mono signal up to 200% of full stereo for an extra wide, exaggerated effect.

best

i am a fan of 60s mono mixing and generally prefer it to both stereo mixing of that era and modern stereo mixing. simply put, i think panning is a bit of a gimmick and imdon't find it interestnig of that it enhances my own music. yet, still, i did not want to be totally center channel MONO only, i do like atereo reverb as it has a much different effect on your mind than mono reverb. so i am now using tshis plugin in garageband to add a sense of width and varying presence to separate tracks wihch aare all centered ie no panning at all but widened with this. it sounds great. it has a real sense of presence now and sounds alive and real, if i turn it off, everything sounds very small and limited again. i never wanted to abandon mono as a mixing tool because imho it is simply superior to stupid stereo panning which is a gimmick, doesnt even sound good in classical music as originally intended, a good mono mix of an orchetr still wrecks the best stereo mix. reason i think this is due to mono magic of blending. you create new unique sounds in mono mixing, there is no comparison, the very thing people love bout stereo, separating instrument, is somethring i cant stand, but a mix still needs room to breath, so very glad to find this thanks to thendevelopers

Essential!

I use this on almost every session these days. One of the essential tools that is now offered on iOS that takes the complete music making & audio creation process to that next level on the platform! Thanks to the dev!

It has one job, and boy does it do it well

It’s pretty simple. Make it wider. As all music producers should be wearing headphones, you’ll definitely notice a difference in audio as it flows through your ears. It’s simple, and easy to use. Great job!
