Description

Sitala is a drum sampler for music creators that can add percussion sounds to Garage Band, Cubasis, AUM or any music software that supports Apple's AudioUnits. It can also be used on its own for finger-drumming or driven by a controller like a keyboard or drum pad. It has 16 slots that start off with our factory kits, but you can load your own sounds using our sample browser or drop in a drum loop and have Sitala slice it automatically.

Sitala features:

• 16 drum pads, each of which can play a user-assigned sample
• Sample browser that lets you quickly swipe through all samples in a folder without importing each individual sample
• 3 built-in drum kits: 808, retro and hip-hop
• AudioUnit v3 plugin
• Beat-slicer that automatically slices loops into individual drum sounds
• Velocity sensitive, MIDI mappable pads
• Special finger drumming mode with 4 giant pads for often used samples
• Editable start and end points for each sample
• A separate output for each pad (in multi-out mode) for hosts that support such (e.g. AUM and Cubasis)
• Sitala for iOS can load kits created by Sitala for the desktop (macOS, Windows and Linux) and vice versa

Six controls to sculpt each sample:

• Shape: adjust the attack, length and sustain of your sounds while the overall volume remains constant
• Compression: make your sounds punchier with more sustain Automatic gain makeup maintains the overall volume while chainging dynamics
• Tuning: pitch sounds up or down by up to one octave while showing you exactly where the current sound falls in the frequency spectrum
• Tone: emphasizes the highs or lows in a sound. Accentuate or scoop the midrange to position the sound in the mix. Adapts based on the pitch content of each sound
• Volume
• Pan

Small but mighty drum sampler with one of a kind browser

I own many drum samplers including Battery 4 and Ableton drum racks on the desktop. Sitala is one of the most efficient drum samplers I’ve ever used. It is fine tuned for percussive hits. The displays showing you what controls do to shape sound are super informative and help you make musical decisions. The browser allows you to easily scroll through sample folders and pick the right sound.

Doesn’t Slice Short Samples

I purchased this app cause it’s supposed to be able to detect and slice by transients. This was the first thing I attempted to do after downloading the app, and it didn’t work.

I loaded a short sample, a drum roll with three distinct transients, but the options to detect transients and slice to pads were greyed out. This was my main reason for purchasing this app and It doesn’t seem to work. It seems there are some limitations with the slicing features of this app. Had I known this I wouldn’t have spent the money.

The app should be able to detect transients from any sample, regardless of size. I’m sure it does other things well, but this was my reason for buying. Hopefully I’m missing something here and can get a response from developer.

Developer Response ,

I think we'd actually replied before the review. :-) This is the first report we've had of someone trying to slice samples shorter than 1 second. Right now Sitala assumes anything shorter than 1 second is a single-shot. We've got some planned updates to the slicer a version or two out, and it looks like revisiting that assumption at that time would make sense.

EDIT: IT WORKS THANK YOU DECOMPOSER

Original review: I downloaded Sitala on iPhone to use as an AUv3 Audio Unit Extension for GarageBand but it doesn’t show up as an audio unit extension! Is this just an error on my end?? Help!

New: It works now. Thank you so much devs for getting back to me with support. I love using this sampler with GarageBand!
For anyone wondering, you can edit and quantize midi in GarageBand with this app as each drum pad sample is assigned to a key on the piano

We have a video showing how to do it here: https://youtu.be/JjNPp3LbRE4
